All the restaurant’s chicken dishes consist of all white meat pieces in generous servings big enough to share, so we also enjoyed the honey garlic chicken and tri-mushroom chicken.

Bernie’s L.A. Café

The “LA” in Bernie’s LA Cafe doesn’t stand for what you think it does. Rather than that West Coast town that’s more famous for its stars than for its food, the LA in Bernie’s LA Café stands for “Latin American”. If you’re a Miami Beach native, then you’ve probably heard of Crazee Olive and their Mediterranean menu. Where Crazee Olive really shines is with their delivery food. Most restaurants that deliver in Miami offer standard fare — Cuban sandwiches, pizza and burgers. There’s nothing wrong with a great pizza, but Crazee Olive takes you on a tour of the Mediterranean with falafel, shawarma and tabbouleh. And they flip a mean patty, too.

We started off with the popcorn falafel and wish we’d ordered more. These addictive little flash-fried nuggets of deliciousness arrived hot with a crisp exterior and a creamy interior enlivened with savory spices. The best part of a falafel patty is that crunchy outer coating, and the scaled-down size of this appetizer gives it the perfect surface-to-volume ratio. They’d probably taste great cold too, but they didn’t last long enough to find out.

Basani’s Pizzeria
