One of the leading road blocks that governments face in planning solar power plants is unavailability of sufficient land in the ideal locations.

The plentiful sunlight, which the entire world has been using for fundamental purposes such as drying clothing and cooking food, is now being utilized to produce electricity for households as well as industries. Men and women across the world have learned the numerous benefits of changing to solar power which includes lowering their electricity bills, reducing pollution brought on by nuclear power plants plus lessening the environmental damage caused by hydroelectric plants. Nowadays, numerous countries and governments are also doing all they are able to tap solar power and cut down consumption of oil and other valuable natural resources for generating power.

Solar Power Station to Replace Abandoned Site in Newark

As per a newly released news story, an deserted warehouse site, which has been idle since 1997 and full of toxins, will soon be housing a solar energy field that can provide about 6,000 [solar panels]. The solar power plant, that will be sprawled across 24 acres, will be able to generate up to 1.5 megawatts of electrical power, and would service Newark’s wastewater plant which is located in its area.

By means of this solar plant developing, the people of Newark can benefit from savings on their electricity bills due to reduction in electricity that is usually utilized by the city’s wastewater plant. Additionally, this solar plant is going to be bonus to the general community surrounding Newark through providing employment in construction and maintenance, and curtailing the aluminum dross from leaking and polluting the Licking River that extends along the property. To sum up, the government and the solar-development firm that are partnering on this project are making the most beneficial use of an otherwise useless land by turning it into an energy producing solar power plant.

Making Space for Solar Plants

One of the leading road blocks that governments face in planning solar power plants is unavailability of sufficient land in the ideal locations. The land required to construct a solar power plant is frequently less than the land required by hydroelectric power plants or coal plants. However, land space for solar power plants can be extensive, considering the volume of electricity it would provide. But as there is shortage of such huge areas of land, we might soon have solar power plants in space or floating [solar panels] over industrial water basins that might generate 1000s of megawatts of electricity.

Generate Solar Power at Your Home

Solar energy can also be generated on a small scale for individual households or workplaces by having [solar panels] installed on the property. There are a number of solar-development firms that can help you install solar-power panels on your roof, in the yard or some other suitable place and help you generate renewable energy for your home or office. Though the amount you will need to devote to installing the components could possibly be significant, you will get back most of the money spent through lowered electricity bills and through government rebates and tax breaks in the future. Not just that, you will also be making your house an environmentally friendly one by cutting down usage of nuclear power, while making the most of the solar powered electricity without feeling remorseful.

Solar is a emerging construction market as demand continues to increase and costs decline. There are many factors that are contributing to the trend for homeowners to include photovoltaic (PV) panels in their home architecture designs. The growth of the industry has made the products more available in most areas. Training on installation is also readily available through centers and online courses. Government regulations in construction also have been modernized to include the systems in code requirements.

Photovoltaic cells are used in panels that are most often seen on top of houses. The cells provide a direct transference of the suns energy to electricity. Over time, the manufacture of these cells has moved from discovery to experimental to mainstream production. Mass producing them provides a lower cost per cell.

The demand for this type of energy has grown at a steady 30 percent annual increase over the last twenty years. With this type of growth, the industry has had to ramp up efforts to make the products readily available. Builders have been able move from special orders to finding standardized products available for inclusion in the home.

Declining costs and more availability have contributed to the growth of the market. In the early days, the products often were custom ordered, which caused lag time between ordering and receiving them. This had to be figured into the overall project to make sure there was appropriated time to be able to install them at the right moment of building. Special training and local building regulations were often lacking. Now, they are more readily available.

Green energy solutions have exploded in popularity. As the world has shifted focus to renewable energy sources, the home has been included. The popularity is fueling all kinds of development and demand for solutions that can work on or off the electric grid. This popularity is growing through responsible citizen programs, government incentives, and higher traditional energy costs.

As energy costs have increased, people have been moved to consider alternative solutions. The cost of traditionally generated electricity has put pressure on people’s wallets causing them to look for cheaper ways to get the same power. Through green energy, they not only have cheaper electricity but also in many cases can sell excess back to the power company producing a revenue stream.

Government incentive programs have also pushed for renewable energy sources. The development and installation costs of renewable sources, such as PV panels have been supplemented through various programs. The consumer is able to receive a credit for switching energy sources. Builders are also able to take advantage of the same programs.

Traditional energy costs continue to rise making solar a emerging construction market. The popularity of green energy solutions, cost savings, and declining production costs are also helping to increase the demand. Twenty years of increasing demand has pushed manufacturing costs much lower as well. Though many look at it as being more responsible, the fact is that the costs associated with installation have been reduced through government subsidies that make it a much more attractive product to be included with building a home.

A growing number of retrofitters are using solar construction. The addition of solar energy to power home appliances saves costs and supports environmental issues.

With the use of a dynamic solar system, a whole new way of life can be achieved. Real energy conservation with solar thermal can be achieved faster than anyone every believed possible. This very user friendly and dynamic system is able to convert sunlight directly into much needed power. Although the concept is really simple it can make a huge difference to so many lives.

This amazing system is made up of flat metal boxes, which contain collector plates and a plastic cover. These collector plates are treated with selective coatings, and are made of aluminum or copper, to absorb and maintain the heat collected. They are specifically designed to absorb the sunlight and store it as heat until it is needed.

The roof mounted system has a circuit which is filled with plain water or a combination of water and anti freeze, depending on the climate. The liquid is heated as it flows through the specially designed circuit, into the hot water tank. This process is driven by a pump or in the case of a solar tank is operated with a very unique siphoning system. This system ensures that there is always plenty of hot water available, without excess costs.

For homes that have intermittent supplies from the main power grid, this system has proven to be really effective in many cases. Not only does this system conserve energy as a whole but it can also save a great deal of money. Fast installations and a simple set up, means real power when it is most needed.

When is comes to commercial buildings and operations, solar power can cut back on heating and power overheads, by significant numbers. The buildings will also operate a whole lot more efficiently. This has been proven with the effective use of passive solar heating in some really large buildings. Large industries can also find significant savings by making use of the sun to power their energy supplies instead of being a drain on the power grid.

By making use of this wonderful renewable resources means far less damage to the environment overall. No drain on very limited resources, which has almost reached the end of their natural life. In fact the right solar system can even drive turbines which can feed power straight back into the main power grid. Alternative power sources such as these can mean a healthier and brighter planet for all future generations.

The applications of this dynamic system is diverse enough to be used in general household use as well as large industries. This means a smaller carbon footprint, less damage to an already fragile environment. There are no major overheads required to install and switch over to one of these systems. The cost will prove to be a whole lot lower than rising power costs.

The initial purchase and installation costs may be a little higher than expected, but in the long run will prove to be a real saving. Not only will there be a saving on expenses but also a chance to save precious resources, which have not been renewable for a very long time.

Government subsidies and favorable tariffs may be expected to lead to major growth in the number of residential solar installations over the next decade. Energy from the sun, converted to electricity by PV (photovoltaic) panels mounted on residential properties, can provide a substantial proportion of the energy needs for the household. Most of these residential systems remain connected to the conventional electricity utility grid. This allows the home to use conventional electricity during the night-time, and to sell excess solar generated electricity to the utility company during the day-time.

Photovoltaic or PV panels contain many thousands of little silicon chips. Each chip is a semiconductor circuit which generates a small electrical voltage when light falls upon it. The panels provide protection from the wind and rain, and connect many circuits together so that practical amounts of voltage and current are produced.

PV systems also need a couple of other electronic circuits. An inverter circuit is used to convert the energy (direct current electricity, or DC) to the alternating current (AC) needed by the appliances in the home. A special type of electricity meter (a two-way meter) is also normally installed. As well as measuring the electricity used by the home, this also measures the electricity generated by the home and fed back into the utility grid.

There are two reasons why the home should remain connected to the city’s utility electricity supply grid. The first is that a source of electricity is needed during darkness hours, when the PV panels are not operating. Energy storage in batteries is possible, but in developed countries it is more cost-effective to use the existing utility grid as an energy reservoir.

Secondly, there may be times when the solar power being produced exceeds the household’s requirements for energy. For example, this may happen during sunny days when the family is at work and at school. Grid connected systems can be configured so that this excess energy is fed into the utility grid. With a two way meter in place, and subject to suitable contracts with the utility company, the installation owner will be paid for this excess energy.

Power produced by PV panels has a much lower carbon footprint than power from conventional sources such as coal, oil and natural gas. This means that it does not contribute towards the problem of man-made global warming. Governments in many countries need to reduce carbon emissions to meet international agreements and protocols, and there can be many government incentives and subsidies available for early adopters of PV technology.

The incentives and subsidies which are available vary from country to country, and from location to location, but in general there are two main types of incentive. In some countries installation costs are subsidized either by tax incentives or by direct grants. In other countries governments guarantee that utility companies will purchase excess generated electricity at favorable rates – these plans are called feed in tariffs (FIT).

Local installation companies can be expected to provide the latest information on the subsidies, grants and tariffs available in their locality. As residential solar installations can provide major savings in electricity costs, and as many different forms of government subsidy are available to encourage early adoption, one may expect substantial growth in the number of installations over the next few years.

Almost all homes have a need for hot water for them to function day to day. Even many businesses need this commodity to some degree. Traditionally, a location would utilize a unit which uses electricity as its many source of energy. But there have been advancements in technology which have provided systems that are more cost-efficient, more dependable and are better for the user overall. Solar thermal water heaters have a high performance index that beats every other version available on the market.

Systems that utilize solar power provide the consumer with price savings. An electric or a gas heater uses power which is usually purchased from public utilities. Thermal systems are powered by the sun. This technology is more price-effective because the power does not have to be purchased.

Solar power is more reliable than electric power. A tank heater traditionally utilizes a vessel made from metal which heats one batch of water at a time. With this type of heating system, the temperature is very hard to regulate. However, thermal heaters have a built in stabilizer which regulate the liquid. They can produce an unlimited amount of hot water at a more reliable temperature.

Another advantage of the stabilizers in these sun-based heating systems is the safety they provide. They constantly regulate the temperature and the pressure. This can avoid dangerous spikes that electric systems can often experience.

Solar thermal systems are better for the user overall. The majority of these systems have no storage tank. This means they present no risk of tank failure or tank puncture. Thus, there is reduced hazard of the system causing damage to other property in the vicinity.

Heating will likely always require an energy source. Using power from the sun as the energy source can be much more cost-effective, consistent and better in the long-term. In a water heater comparison solar thermal vs gas & electric hot water heaters, Solar Thermal technology offers great advantages.

The Solar Systems USA online store has a selection of the highest quality solar panels and related equipment you can buy directly on the web. Our range of solar thermal water heaters are unmatched in both variety and price.

Solar panel efficiency is an important quality to review prior to purchasing a system of this type. The average proficiency rating for units of this type vary from a low of 6 percent to the newer models offering an impressive 20.4 percent. Depending on the model and materials used, the rating will vary quite a bit.

The materials required to build the crystalline unit cause this model to cost more to manufacture. The different types of silicon that manufacturers use gives the unit a higher rating versus a thin film model. Ribbon silicon, mono-crystalline silicon and poly silicon are the most common designs sold in the world today.

Of the three models built, the mono-crystalline design offers the highest efficient ratings, however the fact that it is very expensive to manufacture makes it the least popular. The silicon is heated up and molded into a cylindrical shape. The silicon pieces shape does not completely cover the desired area and leaves gaps to in the four corners and due to extra costs the gaps are rarely filled.

The polycrystalline model is created from silicon materials that are heated up and formed into large blocks. After the material has been formed it is left to coo and solidify, from there it is ready for the build process. The material is very dense to the savings are not as great as the mono-crystalline models, however this design is less expensive to purchase and is quite a bit more popular than other models.

Another silicon model is the ribbon silicon model, this design uses molten silicon to create ribbon formed pieces that are then attached to the conductive frame. Since the procedure utilizes molten silicon instead of hardened varieties, the process creates less waste than other designs. It is also quite popular since the cost is lower to manufacture, the companies who make them can offer consumers better prices.

Thin film designs are both less expensive and less efficient than crystalline silicon models. The reason for the lessened cost for manufacturing lies in the fact these models do not require crystalline materials to produce. Even though they are less efficient overall they are still a very popular design which is sold across the world.

With advancements in the area of solar panel efficiency, new models are being produced which offer an outstanding 20.4 percent rating. This is quite a boost from thin film models that offer 6 percent and crystalline models that offer 11-13 percent ratings. With the higher ratings comes higher costs and the new models are not yet available to the public for purchase, this is due to the cost of manufacturing.

The price of carbon-based fuels like crude oil, coal, and gas oil continue going up, straining budgets. Savings achieved by switching to solar energy continue increasing as a result. Moreover, governments are assisting people to make the switch to solar. They have introduced a range of measures to improve solar affordability and incentives and in that way encourage the switch to solar. The move is also a positive for a cleaner, greener environment. Finally, it can assist national security because it reduces dependence on oil imports.

Both national and state governments extend incentives. The range of incentives is very large. In the USA, the federal 2005 Energy Bill was a landmark piece of legislation that provides significant benefits for people installing solar systems. It established a 30 percent residential energy credit for solar for two years capped at two thousand dollars. At the regional level, sun states like California, Texas and Florida are leaders in offering incentives.

For example, a homeowner in Florida who has decided to install a range of solar power systems to the value of about fifty five thousand dollars can expect to receive about 34 percent of that value back as a result of both federal incentives and state rebates. This example is based on the homeowner installing a solar water heater, a solar pool heating system and a 4.5kw solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

In the USA, Federal government offers tax incentives to support the installation of a range of solar products including PV systems and water heaters. And Florida offers rebates to support the installation of a range of solar products including water heaters and pool heaters.

Subsidized financing is also available. Several finance companies provide green loans at loan rates subsidized by government to support the purchase of approved solar products. Fannie Mae, for instance, offers green financing to home owners where the purchase price of approved products is rolled-up into to the existing home mortgage loan.

Switching to solar products can be a big boost for the environment. For example, installing a solar hot water can decrease carbon emissions of the average sized household by about 1 ton each year, (the actual figure will vary depending on the fuel source of the existing heater). This is equivalent to the carbon emitted by a petrol car driving 10, 000 miles.

In conclusion, people are increasingly switching to solar energy products. Solar affordability and incentives provided by government are supporting home and business owners make the move. Even seemingly minor products can make a difference. Skylights, for example, allow sunlight to penetrate interiors and avoid electric lights being used. Solar vents extract heat from attics, lowering interior temperature and avoid air conditioning being used. When aggregated across the community even small measures like these can significantly decrease carbon emissions.
